The AIHM offers online courses to enable you to study from your home, no matter where you are in Australia, as long as you have a good internet connection. These unique online courses are offered live in ‘real time’, by qualified lecturers of the AIHM. You can ask questions in real time from the lecturers. If you miss a lecture don’t worry, you can listen to them in the archive, not just once but as many times as you want during that term.
All the advanced diploma courses like Advanced Diploma of Ayurveda, Advanced Diploma of Naturopathy, Advanced Diploma of Nutritional Medicine, Advanced Diploma of Western Herbal Medicine (all the theory components) and some short courses including bridging course can be studied by online study mode.
Unlike many other courses that advertise as online courses but are offered as correspondence courses, our courses are offered on line in real time so that you can participate in those lectures and discussions in an interactive way. As such we avoid the term” online” to avoid this confusion.
As educators we know there is a very high attrition rate amongst distance learning students. One of the major reasons is that they are too flexible and as such students do not get around to doing them. The other major reason is the isolation from the lecturers and fellow students. Our courses are well structured and you see and meet the lecturer during every lecture and you communicate with your fellow students in real time.
Unlike some courses, you may pay for the individual unit of study that you are enrolled in the term.
Once you are enrolled in an online course a password and a username will be allocated to you. With that you can login to the student’s section of our web site, where all the lecture materials will be available for you to download. Lecture plans and tutorials are also available for you to download. You will receive a lecture schedule so that you can log in and join the virtual class in real time.
In order to ensure that the students do understand the materials and apply them in clinical situations, some units may have compulsory live tutorials attendant requirements. Some practical units are also offered by online live study mode. For details of the live compulsory attendant requirements please visit individual units.
Students need to be aware that some major private health funds and professional associations do not recognize the qualification that are completed by pure distance education mode. AIHM overcome this challenge by offering theoretical components of our courses by live online mode where our virtual students are also studying at the same time in real time with our on campus students so that there is no room for discrimination.
To become a virtual class campus student all you need is a computer – Pentium 4 (or above), current version of Internet Explorer or Firefox browser , 256KB Broadband Internet connection (or above), suitable speakers & microphone and a Webcam.
While you study theory components by virtual study mode, students who cannot attend AIHM clinic for their clinical training are required to attend an approved clinic for their clinical training. AIHM also expects the virtual campus students to attend the AIHM clinic at least once during their final year of training, before graduation.
