Why should I learn Natural Medicine?

In Australia more than 60% of the population use some form of Natural Medicine to prevent illness, maintain their health and manage various illnesses.

Almost all the health funds cover Natural therapies that are performed by qualified practitioners. Opportunities for Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral Level degrees are available in the field. Some people do Natural Medicine studies merely for self improvement and we are blessed to witness the life transformation of those graduates.

What are the Job Opportunities?

The majority of graduates, upon completion of their course, go to private practice. Some become academics while some work in the health industry as consultants.

What is the admission requirement in your courses?

You are required to have completed Year 12, or equivalent, preferably with Human Biology and Chemistry.
However if you do not have Year 12 school leavers certificate, or equivalent, you can still apply as a mature age student. We take your life experiences and commitment to the fundamentals of Natural Medicine in to consideration.

Since the courses are offered in English you may be required to take IELTS (International English Language Testing System) or equivalent. Please note that different levels of English requirements are required for different countries of origin. This is imposed by the Australian Government. In addition to this you are required to demonstrate your commitment to Natural Medicine during the interview. (A phone interview can be arranged upon receipt of your enrolment form)

What are my Visa requirements?

International Students intending to study at AIHM must obtain a student visa from an Australian Diplomatic Mission or Consulate in their home country before travelling to Australia.

The main requirements for visa applications are:

  • Letter of Offer from the College.
  • Electronic Confirmation of Enrolment from the College.
  • Medical check-up as required by regulation.
  • Proof of financial support as required by regulation.

Please treat these requirements as a guide only since the requirements can change from country to country. As such you are requested to contact the Australian Diplomatic Mission or Consulate in your home country.

What are my Visa Conditions?

As an International Student you should maintain full-time study load as stipulated by AIHM’s timetable. .

As an International Student you are not permitted to study part-time unless you are already in Australia on a spouses study visa or on  a diplomatic or dependant temporary resident visa.

Student visas are usually issued for the period of the course. Students must seek a new visa before expiration of their current visa.

You, as a member of OSHC, 85% of the Government Scheduled fees for private doctors, pathology, and x-rays are paid. The OSHC does not cover any pre-existing condition prior to entry into Australia, including pregnancy.

Students are required to attend for 20 contact hours per week.

You are required to attend at least 80% of the contact hours scheduled for the duration of the course.

Also you are required to notify the Institute of your Australian address within 7 days of arrival in Australia and within 7 days of any change of address.

Please note under the regulations that the Institute is obliged to report to the Immigration department any student who does not attend classes or who is not making satisfactory progress in their studies. Such a student may be asked by the Government to leave the country.

Can I work while I am studying in Australia?

As an overseas student in Australia, you should have enough money to support yourself and your family for the entire time that you are studying. You are not automatically given the right to work once you are in Australia. If you do need to get a job while studying, you will only be allowed to work for 20 hours a week. The money you earn from working in Australia should only supplement your income and not be used as your only source of income.

What do I do if I have an illness that prevents me from attending the class or have some Special Circumstances that I need to leave the country?

If you experience serious medical problems after commencement of your studies which affects attendance, medical certificates from a registered medical practitioner and other evidence must be provided. If attendance continues to be affected the student must discuss with the Institute and the Department of Immigration and Citizenship whether s/he may stay in Australia.

If attendance is affected by exceptional, compassionate circumstances (e.g. bereavement) the student must discuss this with the Institute .The Institute is however required to report unsatisfactory attendance.

If you need to leave the country for a short period of time please contact the Institute to discuss your options.

Are your courses recognised?

All the Advanced Diploma courses offered by the Institute are Nationally Recognised. Upon completion of your course you are also eligible to apply for a number of both Complementary Medicine through CSU or continue your higher education in other interested field of education to Masters or PhD level.

How can I get a University degree while studying at AIHM?

An Articulation Agreement has been established with the Charles Sturt University (CSU) which will enable you to apply for advanced standing  into their Bachelor of Health Science (Complementary Medicine) upon completion of your second year full-time studies. The units are offered and administered by the CSU and the degree is awarded by them. AIHM has no input into the Bachelor run by CSU.

How about accommodation and cost of living in Perth?

Since our campus is located about 20 minutes away from Perth City, you can find a Homestay or rental home or room close to the campus. A room can be rented around $100.00 per week. The bus and the railway stations are in walking distance from the campus. For details about living in Perth please go to International students’ section. The AIHM is happy to assist you in finding your accommodation.  If you need our assistance you need to contact AIHM four weeks prior to arrival date so we can assist in making the necessary arrangements.

Does AIHM provide Airport Pick up?

We would love to do that if you let us know a couple of weeks prior to your arrival date. While many colleges charge you a fee we would do this for free.

How much it would cost me to do a course?

Can I pay in Instalments?

You can pay term by term however first years fees are to be paid upfront before coming to Australia.

Will I be able to work outside Australia if I study here?

Legislative requirement to practice complementary medicine varies depending on the country. As such we recommend you to contact the regulators of the country of your interest.  However, this qualification will allow you to work anywhere within Australia provided you meet other legislative requirements.
